James D. Turner is an Alexandria native who has been practicing law and operating businesses in the Northern Virginia area for over 28 years. He is a former Virginia State Magistrate and has served as Special Commissioner of Sale, Guardian, Executor, Administrator and guardian ad litem on behalf of local court systems. He has qualified as an expert witness in real estate and title matters for litigation involving real estate and is experienced in all types of real estate matters including commercial and residential leases, commercial and residential contracts, evictions, foreclosures, easements, rezoning of property, litigation involving real estate and real estate title matters.

He is currently acting as counsel for banks, companies and credit unions in real estate matters. He has assisted in over 5,000 real estate closings for residential and commercial property and has acted as counsel to Tax Free Exchange, Inc. and Old Dominion Title, Inc. for the tax-deferred exchanges of commercial and residential real estate involving more than 500 different properties in more than 30 states and has handled tax-deferred exchanges (§1031a exchanges) for over 20 years.

His client base includes local businesses, individuals and older clients doing life, family and estate planning (elder law) and assists clients in planning for their retirement years and in having a “stay at home” plan. This planning includes the use of revocable trusts in planning for future needs. He also advises about the impact of Medicaid with elder clients and how to plan for it.

He is personally involved as an owner in numerous commercial real estate projects and is the owner of numerous real estate investment properties in the area and several small businesses.

Over the past several years Mr. Turner has assisted over 100 clients in home loan modifications and debt restructuring with an emphasis on avoiding declaration of bankruptcy for the clients.
