Delinquent child support payments gets rapper arrested

Virginia courts award child support payments to the custodial parent in most cases when it can be proved that the best interest of the child are served by the noncustodial parent providing financial support for the minor child. In most cases, the noncustodial parent might be earning more than the custodial parent or is proved to be in a better financial position than the custodial parent.

In other cases, the noncustodial parent might be paying child support in addition to alimony if the custodial parent has a lot less money than the noncustodial parent. Therefore, delinquent child support payments can lead to financial stress. Currently, authorities impose strict penalties on parents who default on child support payments.

Recently, the "X gon' give it to you" rapper, DMX, was arrested for defaulting on his child support payments. Authorities reported that the rapper owed $400,000 in outstanding child support payments. He was arrested right before a concert performance at Radio City Music Hall in New York City. The 44-year-old rapper, whose real name is Earl Simmons, has been taken into police custody.

Virginia has very strict rules with regard to all noncustodial parents if those parents do not honor the child support order that was issued by the court. The Department of Child Support Enforcement also has the legal right to initiate criminal charges against the parent who has defaulted on child support payments. Custodial parents who are having a similar experience often decide to consult an attorney in order to initiate a lawsuit so that they can obtain the financial support that they need to raise the child. In addition to the criminal charges levied against the noncustodial parent, that parent may also be required to pay fines. In some cases, the parent's driver's license might also be suspended or revoked.
