Divorce can become a very emotional affair and can sometimes bring out the worst behavior in people. Spouses can try and out-maneuver each other in an attempt to get a more favorable divorce settlement. However, one divorced man has now accused his ex-wife of actually stealing his private information in order to secure an increase in the amount of child support that he pays her.
The man has now filed a lawsuit against his ex-wife claiming that the woman broke into both the man's investment account and his Google docs account more than eight years after their divorce. The man goes on to assert that the woman used a thumb drive to download many of his private documents, including his will.
The suit further claims that his former spouse then turned over these documents to her attorney to support a petition to increase the monthly amount of child support she was receiving. During the petition her attorney presented several of these documents to the court as evidence of the man's ability to pay additional child support. The suit states that the court used these documents as a basis to increase the man's monthly child support payments from $2,000 per month to $2,954 a month. He also had to pay almost 90 percent of his children's health insurance and three quarters of the tuition for his daughter's private school.
The suit also states that the man did not give his former spouse his passwords for the accounts in question. He believes that she could not have possibly obtained the documents except by accessing his account.
Child support payments can become a serious issue of contention during a divorce. Any Virginia resident who wishes to seek a modification to their child support agreement may want to speak with a child support attorney in order to explore all of their options.
