How can I cope with a difficult ex during a divorce?

Any Virginia divorce will be a tough situation for a couple. However, if you find yourself in a situation where your soon-to-be-ex is making things especially difficult, it can make the whole process even more tiring and upsetting. You may wonder how you should handle the situation.

The main thing is that you do not play into your spouse's actions, which will only make things worse. The Huffington Post suggests relying more heavily on your attorney to serve as a neutral party in divorce communications. The less you interact, the less likely it is your spouse can make things difficult for you.

You also need to document everything. Make sure that you keep records of finances and all agreements. You want to have proof for when you go to court. Your spouse's reluctance to cooperate can harm him or her in the long run, especially if you have proof he or she is trying to make things more difficult. A difficult spouse can make a divorce drag on, wasting time and money for everyone involved. A court is not happy when such things happen.

You should compromise when you can, but also do not let your spouse steamroll you. Try to maintain your sanity in any way you can. Consider talking to a professional to help you cope with what is happening.

Keep in mind your spouse cannot drag the divorce out forever. Eventually, it will come to an end. This information is for education and is not intended as legal advice.
