Hilary Duff and husband reach amiable divorce settlement

Divorce has many components. There are oftentimes custody arrangements to consider, property division decisions to settle and alimony plans to agree upon. Though this may seem overwhelming to some, it is possible to take the divorce process one step at a time and break down each component into palatable chunks, making it possible to come to an agreeable and mutually satisfactory divorce settlement.

Virginia residents may know of Hilary Duff for her work as a child actress with Disney, but they may be surprised to see her grown up and dealing with adult issues. Duff and her husband Mike Comrie, a National Hockey League star, have recently divorced as the couple claims to not be in love anymore. The divorce did not proceed in a way that appeared rocky, though, as the couple cites simple lifestyle differences for causing them to move on emotionally. Comrie is apparently more of a stay-at-home type, while Duff would like to be more active socially. The couple had been married for three years.

Thanks to the presence of a prenuptial agreement, everything appeared to have proceeded smoothly in court. Property division was simple -- Comrie kept the $500 million that his family's furniture company is worth, while Duff kept the $25 million she earned from her work with Disney. The couple also came to a child custody agreement in which they will share joint custody of their son.

Every divorce is unique. Some may involve a prenuptial agreement, while others may lack it. Some may have multiple children involved, while others may have none. This is why every divorce case needs individualized attention and a divorce strategy that suits each individual situation, so families can begin a new stage of their lives on the right foot.
